US Races This Weekend (Sept. 12–13, 2026): Start Times, Sellouts and Manchester's 70% Rain Chance
- Manchester-by-the-Sea is now 70% rain with patchy fog at the 9 a.m. start, wind 10 mph SE.
- Bozeman dropped to 43°F with an 18 mph east wind at the 8 a.m. half start — about 35°F with wind chill — while its rain chance fell again, to 20%.
- Erie's humidity at the gun rose to 99% (rain down to 7%), Guardsman Pass reads 51°F with the storm risk gone, and Gig Harbor's light-rain chance is up to 40%.

Quick answer — Saturday's headline is REVEL Big Cottonwood, with the marathon leaving Guardsman Pass at 6:45 a.m. and the half going 15 minutes earlier from below Mill D. Sunday belongs to the Erie Marathon at Presque Isle, 7 a.m., where 69°F air over a 68°F dew point makes it the stickiest start on the board — the full breakdown is in our Erie race preview.

Big Cottonwood needs more than a start time. The marathon begins at Guardsman Pass, roughly 9,800 feet up, where the National Weather Service grid now puts the 6:45 a.m. air at 51°F with the rain chance at 1%. Buses load at Murray High School between 4 and 5 a.m., so the real exposure is two hours at altitude in the dark. Half marathoners load at Union Park Avenue between 4:15 and 4:45 and start ten miles down the canyon at 52°F. The finish at Cottonwood High School is the catch: 77°F at 10 a.m. and 81°F by 11.

Forecasts are National Weather Service hourly grid data, re-pulled the morning of Friday, Sept. 11. Against Thursday’s numbers, Manchester moved 65% to 70% with fog added, Gig Harbor 25% to 40%, and Salem 14% to 24%, while Bozeman fell from 54% to 20% but picked up wind and lost two degrees. Erie held at 69°F and got wetter at the surface: 99% humidity at the gun.

Geist is worth reading twice even now that the half has gone: packet pickup is Friday only, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and nobody reaching the line after 7:35 a.m. may start. Five minutes of grace, no race-morning pickup.
What should you wear between 43 and 69 degrees?
Dress for 15 to 20 degrees warmer than the forecast reads, because that is where your body lands ten minutes in. The spread at the gun is now 26 degrees, and it still splits this weekend into three kit problems — each worked through in our race-by-race kit guide.

Can you still enter on race morning?
Fewer places than the calendar suggests. Manchester-by-the-Sea takes entries until 8:45 a.m. for a 9 a.m. gun. Erie stays open to 6 a.m. at $150, under a no-refunds, no-deferrals, no-transfers policy. Race For A Soldier opens 5K race-day registration once online entry closes Friday night, and Black Squirrel charges $125 at race-day pickup.

What makes Erie worth the drive?
The course, not the weather. Erie's own race information puts total elevation change under 250 feet across the marathon — 84 feet of measured gain — run inside Presque Isle State Park, which is why it draws a Boston-qualifying crowd every September. We pulled the last four race mornings and the qualifying rates that came with them in a separate Erie preview.
👉 Logistics catch: the park permit sends every car to Waldameer Park, a 0.6-mile walk down to the start for runners and spectators alike, with no food vendors at the pavilion.Black Squirrel is the opposite outlier: 13.5 miles rather than 13.1, roughly 2,000 feet of climbing and the same down, on a 5.5-hour cutoff in Lory State Park. How much does a four-day forecast move?
Temperature holds within a few degrees; rain probability swings. Bozeman went 54% to 77% and back down to 20% in three pulls, and Manchester 23% to 70%. Saturday and Sunday mornings get a fresh read on our daily weather page.
Is a waiting list worth joining?
For Bar Harbor and Holland Haven, yes: small fields where transfers and no-shows free spots in the final 72 hours. Cherry City has no published waiting list, so Salem runners are looking at next year.
Why do the Gig Harbor races start five minutes apart?
Race For A Soldier sends the half at 7:50, the 10K at 7:55 and the 5K at 8:00 so the fields separate on a shared early course.
